Dear friends,
I’m very excited to share an upcoming project with you: an EP of new liturgical Orthodox music. The EP, entitled Evening Prayer, will consist of selections from Vespers I’ve composed this year. Tracks will include Vouchsafe, O Lord, the Great Prokeimenon, the Evening Litany, and more. The recording will take place in a professional studio owned by the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and the choir will be composed of members of St. Symeon’s in Birmingham (OCA). For a taste of what’s to come, you can listen to my newly released setting of Let My Prayer Arise, linked here. This piece was recorded by the same group, in the same studio, last Spring. We are extraordinarily blessed that the EP's recording will be of no cost to us. Additionally, I will act as audio mixer/producer for the album. The only cost is that of paying the musicians: which I have decided to do, in light of their extensive sacrifice and high level of musicianship. My goal is to raise $3,000 by November 15th (a week before the recording). Assuming we have a 12-person choir, this will be $250 per musician. As a formally active session musician, I can tell you that’s far less than the going rate for the amount of time, effort, and caliber of musicianship. However, any amount we receive will be distributed to the musicians. (If we significantly exceed our target, extra funds will go towards a future recording.) If you are a lover of the liturgical arts, I humbly ask you to consider supporting this project.
You can donate through GoFundMe at this link, or if you prefer (and it will save us on fees, too), mail checks to the address at the end of this email. However you donate, please include a note with your name and email address so I know where to send files upon the project’s completion. Lastly, would you consider sending this letter to anyone who might be interested in this project? To invest in the arts is a great thing, but to invest in the Church’s art is even greater! We will strive to make bountiful returns on your investment. Gratefully, Elizabeth Jerrell Mail checks to: Elizabeth Jerrell 3304 W Queen Place Spokane, WA 99205 Please put “recording” in the memo of your check and let me know your email address!
