Birmingham Girls Choir premiering "I See the Moon" May 9th, 2024

I had a wonderful time visiting the Birmingham Girls Choir for rehearsal last week! BGC is truly a blessing to the community. Girls are offered more than just a great musical foundation; they are given the opportunity to grow in an environment that prizes excellence, something increasingly scarce in education today.

I composed this piece especially for this ensemble. The text is my take (expanded and developed) on the traditional nursery rhyme, "I see the moon." At rehearsal, I spoke to the girls about my inspiration and different musical elements of the piece, and the girls had the chance to share what the text meant to them. What fun!

Margaret Heron, director of the BGC program, is an inspiration, together with her whole team of wonderful educators and future educators! I look forward to seeing what is in store as they continue growing the program and shaping young lives.
